Despite the dim view that some individuals
take on tattoos, they remain extremely popular with people around the world. As
early as 2015, UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph was reporting that 1 in
5 people had at least one tattoo on their body. In the US, according to
historyoftattoos.net, something like 36 percent of Americans between 18 and 29
years old have at least one tattoo, as well.
So, why do people get them, even if they know their older relatives, or boss, or society at large might judge them for it? Let’s study the reasons below and see the gallery at the end!!
Self-expression
In the age where we are supposed to “speak
our truth” and show how we feel, tattoos are a great way to do it. The old
expression talks about “wearing out hearts on our sleeves” and thanks to
tattooing, we are able to do just that.
Re Lasting reminders
If you’ve lost a loved one, or had a new
baby, or simply want to immortalize someone or something as a living memory,
then a tattoo is a beautiful way to do that. It’s not uncommon to see a father
with the names of all his children tattooed on there, or a daughter with an
image of a stunning dove as a symbol of her mother’s desire for peace and love.
The artistry
There’s no denying it, tattoos are works of
art! These are far some inky doodles; it takes serious skill and an artistic
eye to capture something in tattoo form. There’s a reason that the creators are
called tattoo “artists” and not tattoo “squigglers.”
It’s only ink
Fortunately for our societies, many of us
now know that others’ judgements against people with tattoos are both foolish
and unreasonable. It’s only ink, for heaven’s sake! A tattoo doesn’t change who
you fundamentally are inside, so why should we pass judgement?
They can be functional
Far from being simply a statement of vanity
or personal love for someone, a tattoo can actually be highly functional. If
you’ve recently had surgery, or were burned or suffered some other injury, a
tattoo can go a long way to covering the scar tissue or damage to your skin
that was done. This can be life-saving to people who are self-conscious and
worry about such things affecting their lives.
And there you have it. It turns out that tattoos are far more than just a passing fancy. They are an established and immovable part of modern culture, and it’s right to expect that the industry will continue to grow and flourish as we move into the new decade.
